When I moved to this country, I thought landing a job would automatically solve my money problems. Even with a background in finance, I quickly learned that knowing about money isn't just a math thing; it's about habits, choices, and mindset.While working in the finance industry, I saw a clear divide: some families teach their children about money from a young age-opening savings accounts, explaining credit, practicing patience, and setting them up for success. Others, especially in communities of color, lacked that early guidance, often seeking credit without understanding how it works or how to manage it responsibly. That is usually because they have no time to spend with their kids, as they often work two or three jobs to make ends meet. All of us have made mistakes with money. What matters is the willingness to learn and grow from those mistakes. That's why I created YOUNANCE (an abbreviated form of "Your Finance"), a resource to make financial literacy accessible, relatable, and empowering to young people.My mission is to inspire teens to start healthy money habits now-talking openly about finances, understanding how money works, and preparing for a future where they control their financial destiny. When young people learn these lessons early, they can break cycles, build confidence, and create a legacy of financial wellness.I've made big mistakes with money. Instead of making excuses, I owned it, then committed to learning.
